Maureen E. Maney, partner at Greene Reid & Pomeroy, obtained a $1.8 million dollar judgment for a client involved in a construction accident following a week-long trial in Cortland. The client was injured when the excavation drill he was required to use had been damaged a month prior to the accident and was never repaired or taken out of service. The drill ended up crushing his right thumb, which ultimately required an amputation. The client, who was 31 at the time of the accident, underwent years of surgeries and medical treatment for his injuries and has been left with disabling and permanent injuries. Prior to trial, the insurance carrier offered $50,000 to settle the case.
